What is more interactive than the Amazing Race around the school? This term, we created a game for English Language Learners. My partner and I decided that an interactive game would be the best way to encourage our learners. The purpose of this game is to act as a summative assessment tool while having students engage through physical literacy.

Summer term has officially concluded. Each term we are given an opportunity to take on larger tasks. This term, working in groups of 4 we created a Cross Curricular Unit Plan with a focus on hockey. We created an inclusive and detailed Grade 6 Unit focusing on Social Studies, Math, Science, Arts Education and Physical Education. Each lesson has First Peoples Principles, Core Competencies and Inclusive Adaptations imbedded.

Another term has come to an end, this term we focused on Career Education. Not only did this class allow us to look at the impact we as educators have on our students. For our final assignment of the class we were asked to create a Capstone presentation. The direction I took with my presentation was a trip down memory lane to pay tribute to my educational journey and those teachers who helped me find my way.

Taking a class that focused on interweaving Indigenous Education into everyday aspects of the curriculum seemed daunting. The task of also completing a life writing task where we are required to reflect on our own personal experiences and how it relates to Indigenous teachings was, to say the least, very nerve-racking. I felt a tremendous amount of pressure to do the assignment justice. However, after some much-appreciated guidance from our professor Karine Veldhoen I felt more relaxed. My life writing assignment had me stop and reflect on how little I knew and how much more I wanted to know—learning ways to show my understanding and appreciation of Indigenous language, culture, and land. I was eager to learn more, but I was also motivated to pay it forward to the new generation of learners back home.

For our Education 393- Foundations of Education class, we were tasked with a final project to demonstrate our learning. So in true teaching fashion, we were given a choice to display what we learned. Being a visual learner myself, I decided to challenge myself. So I created my own magazine.

I decided that this would be the best way to showcase my learning. I wanted an interactive experience for the reader. One of the highlights of the term for me was understanding Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Understanding the basics will help us as educators fuel the needs of students to help them reach their full potential.
