Educators engage in professional learning.
Being an educator, you are never not learning. Every day you learn something new about yourself, your student, or the world around you. Throughout this program, we have had plenty of opportunities to engage in professional learning through different courses. Mental Health Literacy and Math Minds were two of those courses. Each course offered insight into teaching strategies to help us become better educators. For example, Mental Health Literacy taught us about the concept of health literacy, which focuses on assisting people in understanding how to take care of their own mental health. Mental Health is something that I want to prioritize for myself and my students. Therefore, I want to try to embed Mental Health Literacy into my classroom. Math Minds focused on teaching numeracy, specifically how to teach numeracy more effectively in the school. Engaging in these courses challenged us to think like students going through the coursework and made us more conscious as educators. We must be mindful of the importance of continually educating ourselves to serve our learners better.
