Assessment is a huge part of learning. That is the only way we grow. The purpose of using assessment in the classroom is to improve student learning. Our educators need to plan effectively to ensure that our learners feel respected and included within their capabilities. Having students feel comfortable and confident in their abilities will often produce better work. Understanding that different assessment strategies work better for different students will create more creativity and more comfort. Another critical part of assessment and instructional practices is feedback and communicating results. Through open and honest communication, students can make the necessary changes to improve.
For our Education 421 Class, we created a presentation highlighting the importance of motivation and assessment in the classroom. We also focused on incorporating Outdoor Education and the implication of games as a motivational tool. If students are more engaged with the material, they are more likely to recall the information, allowing for deeper connections to the presented materials.
