Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development.
As educators we want to make sure that our students are becoming well rounded individuals, focusing on both the academic and social emotional level. It is our role to help foster a sense of growth and development within each student. Student growth can look different with each learner. Creating opportunities for students to develop and flourish will only help them succeed beyond the walls of the classroom. Introducing Social Emotional Learning can create dialogues for students to reflect and discuss how they are feeling in any situation. This can generate more avenues for self reflection. Self reflection is vital for all ages. Social emotional growth can also foster better communication when asking for help.
When students are provided with the opportunities to reflect they become more cognisant of their actions, this can be a beneficial tool in regard to assessment. Providing students with their choice of assessment can allow for a sense of responsibility and control over how they are to present their learning. If a student feels comfortable they are more likely to feel confident with their material.
