the influence of a good teacher can never be erased

First Peoples Principles of Learning

The First Peoples Principles should be included and acknowledged beyond the walls of the classroom. The First Peoples Principle (FPPL) help us recognize the importance of incorporating Indigenous knowledge. Indigenous knowledge allow for students to immerse themselves in the value lessons of Indigenous education. Providing students with opportunities to engage with the FPPL they are fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the knowledge. A key way to allow students to conceptualize the information is to give them opportunities to really experience it. When students are given the opportunity to exercise the material told to them, they will truly put into practice the principles. Developing students holistically is just as vital as developing them academically. The First Peoples Principles can be interwoven into a variety of lessons. Having the opportunity to culturally immerse myself has helped me develop a greater appreciation and understanding for the knowledge being passed on. Indigenous knowledge focuses on reciprocal relationships and it is important as teachers to pass on the knowledge we have acquired to our students.
