Experiential Education
As a tactile learner I understand the value and importance of truly experiencing the materials being presented. We have learned that students learn by doing. However, students learn best through hands on experiences, really putting the theory into practice. Experiential learning is an adaptive teaching tool which can be adapted and modified to meet the needs of each student. Following the Experiential Learning Cycle where students Experience – Reflect – Think – Act, they are more susceptible to remembering the information presented.
Field Trips and Outdoor Learning provide an ideal setting for experiential learning. Giving the students an opportunity to interact with a new environment it will allow for different challenges that go beyond the walls of a traditional classroom. When students experience outdoor education it helps ground them, which can lead to deeper and more meaningful inter-social connections. Having the chance to take the materials presented to you and applying them only makes the learning process that much richer.
